Light in the Darkest Places, Pt. 1

Play

For 40 years, Compassion Radio has been present to witness the triumphs and tragedies of the Kingdom of God. Sometimes they’re the same thing…

When the Twin Towers fell, and America threw itself headlong into the longest war in U.S. history, no one dared – it seemed – to reach out to the people of Afghanistan with compassion and love. It was just inconceivable that God would have people in such a forsaken place. Norm and Cher Nelson knew better. Having spent years ministering to those affected by multiple wars in Africa and the Middle East, they knew God always has his people in the most unlikely places.

So… Norm and Cher packed up and went straight to the frontlines of action between the Taliban and the other factions fighting for control of the Country, some for and some against the American involvement. It was a messy affair and unpredictable. But it’s in these volatile situations that God does some of His most amazing work. Wherever they found themselves they spoke freely and openly about their love for ‘Issa’ the Arabic pronunciation of ‘Jesus.’ It led to some amazing encounters and uncovered a hidden outpost of God’s Kingdom thousands-strong, worshipping in caves and hidden rooms. Daily they faced martyrdom for their faith.

Today and tomorrow, Cher speaks to the current situation in Afghanistan and how we can pray for and support the Believers there.
