Romanian Church Organizes Refugee Welcome Center

Lasi, Romania, 3/9, 11 PM

Our team visited with a Church Pastor and volunteers who are welcoming refugees in transit across Moldova. The need for baby supplies remains but the biggest need is for information and assistance in planning further travel and legal advice. There is no formal infrastructure for processing refugees in this location. All efforts are being organized and implemented by volunteers. Yesterday, they built a welcome center at the border on donated land, placing construction office trailers together to form a compound. It is heated with running water and comfortable seating. Some volunteer counselors and translators have contributed their services. The local Church has committed to paying the rental expenses of these temporary trailers @ 1500 euros/mth.

We went to see medical facilities in Suceava and the relief work that is underway at the Romanian border town with Ukraine named Siret. We then headed into Galati on the southeast border with Ukraine next to Odessa.
