Breaking Bread in Lebanon, Pt. 5

Play

There’s a reason we ‘break bread’ together. We not only take care of our basic survival needs, we also enter in to each other’s lives. It’s the most natural way to really get to know someone. The most significant examples we read in the Bible center on acknowledging Jesus at the table with us, remembering the power of his sacrifice and resurrected life within us. In Lebanon, today, food insecurity is a real threat. The collapse of their economy has adversely impacted every family, making things 4, even 8 times as expensive as they were just months ago. On top of that, add the unprecedented disaster of the August 4 Port Explosion which destroyed most of the country’s grain reserve and transport infrastructure. Yet the people are extremely resilient – especially the Christians. They continue to demonstrate a God-powered hospitality and generosity that stuns their neighbors and enemies alike.
