Today: It was a strange day at a Swedish train station – at least it seemed that way to a visiting Orchestra Conductor from Venezuela. Suddenly a sea of young people poured out on the platform looking exhausted and out of place in this Nordic country. As far as Ron Alvarez could see, the world suddenly looked a lot more like his homeland. They didn’t look Swedish. They didn’t speak the language. Eventually they were directed to a welcoming party of sorts, handed snacks and toiletry kits and moved on in smaller groups to destinations unknown. Ron had just witnessed the arrival of Refugee Asylum Seekers from the Middle East. He was intrigued by the group, who all seemed to be young people without accompanying adults. Just his sort of people, for this Musician, Teacher and Conductor was in Sweden to use music to reach at-risk children. Could this encounter be completely coincidence, or something more?
