Compassion Radio, in a joint effort with its partnering ministry in Sudan,
Conscience International, has launched a unique peace initiative that could
help reduce the violence that currently plagues Sudan’s troubled Darfur
province.
This
initiative focuses on the “sulva” traditional tribal reconciliation process
and has enlisted the participation of the country’s two leading Muslim
clerics, Sheikh Mawlana Muhammad al-Sadiq al-Qururi and Imam Ahmad al-Mahdi
– the latter being the grandson of Muhammad al-Mahdi who led Sudan’s battle
for independence against the British in the late 19th century.
Reconciliation conferences are planned for summer, 2007 in the three refugee
centers of Darfur – Nyala, El Fasher, and El Geniena.
Compassion Radio listeners and partners are urged to pray that there “grass
roots – from the ground up” conferences will contribute to a breakthrough in
what the United Nations calls the worst humanitarian crisis in the world
today.
